Wiley & Russel was one of the earliest manufacturers to make John Grant's "tap and die" machine thread cutting tools. Wiley & Russell eventually was merged with the Wells Brothers company, in 1912, to form Greenfield Tap & Die. Charles Russell was a nephew of John Russell, who formed the famous Russell Cutlery.
