A 1905 insurance map depiction of the site originally known as Montague Paper Company, as it appeared in 1905. This and the Russell Cutlery (1871 & 1868 respectively) were the first two industries to occupy the west bank of the power canal at Turners Falls as a result of the Turners Falls Company canal widening and lengthening project (1903-1916) begun by Alvah Crocker in 1866. This version of the site includes property of the former Turners Falls Machine Co. (later (1908) the Montague Machine Co.) on the south side of the canal. Buildings #21 & blacksmith shop and #26 of T.F.M. Co. still stand in 2020 as part of the Mass. Dept. of Conservation and Recreation; Discovery Center facility.
