March 1st ,83 [1883] -- My dear Mr. Rice, -- -- Yours arrived 26th alt. at hand. I’m writing about my nephew J.B. Thompson. -- I have given as good a situation in every branch of paper making as it is possible. He has had an appointment to understand and manipulate every machine in the mill. -- He has had a thorough training in the rag room, bleach room, sizing room and in coloring. I have kept him in nearly every department several weeks after he has thought he had required a full knowledge of that branch --
