Dec. 20, 84 [1884] -- My dear Van Kirk, -- Your favor of 17th at hand. -- I notice all you say and I should be very glad if you could manage to start inn business again but it is not possible for me to do what you want. You know I have made two losses for the company in my business with you and however much I might desire to have the KP Co take a third risk the directors would not give their consent. I think you are popular with the trade and might build up a good business in N.Y. by starting in a small way and selling only to good parties. I have always understood that Mrs Van Kirks father [Mr. Miller] was a man of property and it seems -- --
